Shirley (Vogelaar) Fusco, 89, of Woodbridge, CT passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital and is now in the arms of the Lord and reunited with her husband, Augie Fusco, who passed on March 26, 2005.   Shirley was born on December 16, 1928 in Providence, RI, the daughter of the late Herman and Theresa (Kramer) Vogelaar.  She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and Roger Williams School of Nursing. During her training at Yale New Haven Hospital, she met the love of her life, Augie, who was working on a large construction project at the hospital.  They married and settled in Woodridge.  While raising a family she worked for many years as an OB-GYN nurse at the Hospital of St. Raphael.  She later changed paths as an Orthopedic nurse for Dr. J. Kevin Lynch and Dr. R. Nicholas Margolis.  Shirley enjoyed traveling, especially spending time with her husband in Cape Coral, Florida.  Shirley was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She leaves five children, Louise (Patty) Robert DeMarco of Naples, Florida; Teresa (Alex) Sabellico of Woodbridge, CT; Linda (David) Tafuto of Prospect, CT; August John (AJ) Martine Fusco of South Glastonbury, CT; and Robert (Robie) Lisa Fusco of Orange, CT.  She leaves 11 cherished grandchildren, Francis, Traci, Allie, Jamie, David, Jeffrey, Domonic, AJ III, Abbey, Nicholas and Haley; and 9 great grandchildren, Lucca, Dominic, Ben, Jeffrey Jr. (JJ), Ty, Grabriella, Cecilia, August, Avery and Braelyn.  She was predeceased by her brother, Frederick and sister, Agatha.  She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews. Shirley's family would like to express their gratitude to the entire staff, nurses and doctors at Brookdale Woodbridge, St. Raphael and Yale New Haven Hospitals for their special care and support.

There will be no calling hours.  A Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Assumption Church, 81 Center Road, Woodbridge, CT 06525 will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.   Burial in the Fusco family plot at St. Lawrence Cemetery will be private.  Donations in Shirley's memory may be made to Assumption Church at the above address.
