Obituary

Renukadevi Domakonda, devoted wife and mother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 22, 2025. Renukadevi was born in Hyderabad, India on May 11, 1949. The seventh of eight children, she was calm and playful by nature, and patient and persistent by necessity. These traits helped her excel in her early work as tutor and language teacher. In 1979, Renukadevi married Vajreshwar, and they had their son, Kunal, a few years later. When Kunal was four years old, the family moved to America to provide him a better future, ultimately settling in Queens, NY.

Renukadevi was a caring, affectionate, and joyful wife and mother who always put her family first. She had a quiet strength that seemed to melt worries without words. Her presence made those around her feel secure and comforted, which is why her home was always full of visitors. She was devoted to her Hindu faith and traditions, but never judged or said an unkind word about anyone.

Renukadevi's love was embodied in her cooking. She was a passionate chef who was always in the kitchen, frying fresh rotis or seated on a stool, carefully peeling fresh okra into her sari. Although a vegetarian herself, Renukadevi delighted in making Hyderabadi biryani and crabs for Kunal and Vajreshwar, a testament to her selflessness. This skill earned her the nickname, "Culinary Beethoven," given to her by Kunal for her ability to make delicious food without tasting it.

In addition to a love of cooking, Renukadevi was a fashionista and socialite who would travel any distance to celebrate a loved one. She loved music and singing, and her angelic voice was the highlight of every family event. At home, she enjoyed knitting, watching Indian variety shows, and most recently, cuddling with her grandson, Milan. She was also a talented gardener. Her porch overflowed with flowers and vegetables that thrived under the same tender care and attention she gave to everything and everyone around her.

Renukadevi is survived by her husband of 46 years, Vajreshwar, her son Kunal, her daughter-in-law, Mirjana, and her grandson, Milan.
