Obituary

Normand J Morneau, 81, of New Haven, passed away on March, 13, 2022. He was an avid bowler, camper, golfer, track official and toolmaker. He was active with the Knights of Columbus (4th Degree). He is survived by his children Annette (Mike) Flathers of Granville, OH and Norm (Sagar) Morneau of Chicago, IL. He leaves behind 11 cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many God-children, nieces and nephews who brought him much joy.

Normand was born in Lynn, MA on November 8, 1940 to the late Joseph and Priscilla Morneau. He leaves one brother Henry (Virginia) Morneau and three sisters Lorraine McCarthy, Donna (Al) Renkewitz and Rosalie Killian and his in-laws Margaret Marlowe, Sr. Eleanor Goekler,SMIC, Helen (Art) Macauley. He is predeceased by his wife Frances Goekler-Morneau, son, Joseph Morneau, brothers-in-law Don McCarthy, Jim Killian, Thomas Goekler, MM and Bob Marlowe.

He spent his early years in Lynn, MA before the family relocated to Wallingford, CT. Growing up he would caddy at the country club starting his love of golf. He attended H.C. Wilcox Technical High School and then joined Pratt & Whitney in North Haven as a tool and die maker helping to construct jet engines for over 40 years, contributing to several patents along the way.

Norm became a certified track official in the shot-put in 1995, for the Special Olympic World Games that were hosted in New Haven, then went on to become a well respected member of the track and field community, officiating at the club, high school and collegiate level. He was deeply proud of the track athletes who came through his throwing circle and followed all their stats in the paper.

He was active in his faith community, serving as a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Fair Haven and at St. Raphael's Hospital. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and served as financial secretary for the chapter.

Norm was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed bowling, cycling and camping with his wife throughout the Northeast. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan who enjoyed comparing notes with friends and family throughout their season.

Calling hours will be Sunday evening from 4:00-7:00 pm at Hamden Memorial Funeral Home, 1300 Dixwell Ave. Family and Friends are asked to go directly to Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish (St. Francis Church), 397 Ferry St, New Haven Monday at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven. Please note that the family asks attendees to wear masks out of an abundance of caution.
