Obituary

Lenora P. Isenstadt of Hamden, CT passed away on Friday February 11th after a long illness.

She was born on February 15, 1930 in the Bronx, New York. She was the eldest child of the late Lillian and Murray Pakull.  She was predeceased by her husband Lowell D. Isenstadt.

She was a lifelong educator, graduating from City College of New York in 1951. She later received her Masters degree and Reading Certificate from Southern Connecticut State University. Her first job was as a school teacher at Katherine Brennen Elementary School in New Haven. She later stopped working to raise her 3 children. When they were a little older, she went back to work part time as a reading specialist in the Milford School system. When her children were grown, she went back to work full time at Branford High School as a English/Reading teacher, where she made many close lifelong friends. She first retired at age 70, but then starting teaching Freshman English at Gateway Community College, finally fully retiring at age 83. She also taught Sunday school and Hebrew for many years at Congregation Mishkan Israel in New Haven and later in Hamden.

She is survived by her brother Dr. Barton(Jan) Pakull of Arlington, Virgina, and 3 children, David(Donna) Isenstadt, Carol(Howard) Gutkin, and Debbie Isenstadt all of Hamden, CT. She also has 4 grandchildren, Hilary(Peter) Moraski, Matthew Isenstadt, Jennifer(Brendan) Hosey, and Simone(Christian Eggers) Gutkin, and 2 great-grandchildren, Declan Hosey, and Penelope Moraski.

A graveside service will be held at the Congregation Mishkan Israel Cemetery at the corner of Whalley Ave and Jewell St. on Monday, February 14 th at 11:00 am. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Hamden Memorial Funeral Home.
