With the heaviest of hearts, we share the news of the passing of John Unger -- husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. A man of gentle wisdom and many talents, he was happily married for 68 years to Dot, and deeply loved by his family: Cathy Pleines (Rich), Linda Comen (Stuart), Ellen Freiler (Peter), Diane Unger, David Unger (Brenda), granddaughter Amber Freiler (Patrick Serpe), great-granddaughter Penelope Serpe, and sister Barbara Pyle (Wayne). A native of West Haven, John worked for the State of Connecticut DOT for 32 years. He sang for many years with the City of the Elms Barbershop Chorus and with the Sound Waves Quartet. We are grateful to the staff in the short term rehab wing of Hamden Rehabilitation and Health Care for their support and commitment to his care over the past two months.
