James F. O'Brien, 87, of New Haven, has passed away after a long illness at the Veteran Affairs Hospital on September 1, 2022. James was the son of the late James and Beatrice (Gaffney) O'Brien. James was born on April 1, 1935, in Hamden, CT.

James is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Tanner O'Brien of 50 years, daughter Erin O'Brien of Florida, and son Jimmy (Valerie) O'Brien of North Haven. James was brother to Robert (Arlene) O'Brien, Nancy (Robert) Kenny and deceased Alice (Michael) Swiatek and brother-in-law to Joan Tanner Shamansky. James was grandfather to Bailey O'Brien and recently deceased Tavian O'Brien, Jaxson and Violet O'Brien.

James was uncle to Jennifer O'Brien and deceased Kimberly O'Brien, Robert (Rene) Kenny, deceased Brian Kenny and Michael, Steven (Colonna), Susie and Patty Swiatek.

James joined the U.S. Navy as a electrician from 1954-1958 and was employed by the Southern New England Telephone Company for many years.

James's wake will be held at the Hamden Memorial Funeral Home, 1300 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, CT, with Visitation on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 5-7pm, as well on Thursday, September 15, 2022 from 11am-12pm at Hamden Memorial.
