West Haven
James E Day, age 68, of West Haven, entered into eternal rest on June 28, 2024. Born on September 6, 1955 to the late Roy and Anne E. (McCarthy) Day. Jimmy is preceded in death by his loving brother Roy (Marnie) Day of Hamden. Jimmy is survived by his best friend and brother John Day of West Haven and loving nephew Colin Day (Rebecca Pavone) of Branford. Jimmy is also survived by many loving cousins in California, as well as many devoted friends and colleagues.
To know Jimmy was to know a true original. Jimmy was known for his generosity and warmth. He took great pleasure in sharing his knowledge with others, often mentoring enthusiasts who shared his love for technology. His workshop was a treasure trove of vintage phones, printing presses, pinball machines and other electromechanical wonders, where he spent countless hours tinkering and perfecting his craft. He remained a steadfast advocate for preserving the history of telecommunications and printing, believing that understanding the past was essential for shaping the future.
Jimmy spent 48 years of his life working at Toad's Place in New Haven where he was truly able to do what he loved. He also spent many years working on and maintaining the Armstrong building in West Haven which brought him great happiness. Jimmy spent much of his life practicing his faith and serving the Sikh community in Southington. He was a lover of all animals and leaves behind his beloved cat, Armstrong, who was a constant source of joy in his life.
Jimmy leaves behind a legacy that will endure through the lives he touched and the innovations he inspired. His dedication to his craft, his kindness, and his unwavering curiosity serve as an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Jimmy's spirit will live on in the countless devices he repaired, the knowledge he shared, and the love he gave to his family, friends and community. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Calling hours for Jimmy will be at Hamden Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday July 13, 2024 from 9am-12pm and the Sikh community will be holding a prayer service for him on Sunday July 14, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the West Haven Animal Shelter in Jimmy's honor. Condolences may be expressed at Hamdenmemorialfuneralhome.com.
