Obituary

James "Jimmy" Adams Dixon, Sr. was born on March 29, 1937, in New Haven, Connecticut to the late George, Sr. and Estelle Dixon. James went on to be with our Lord on Friday, May 31,2024 after a brief illness; he was one of nine children. He graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven, CT, and he studied at the University of New Haven in West Haven, CT earning his associate's degree in Police Science. He attended the New Haven Police Academy and municipal police Training Council earning various certifications in policing and was also one of the oldest members to attend the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA, completing the program in September 2000. In his early years, he worked for the New Haven Police Department reaching the level of Detective/Juvenile Investigator. Then, went on to the Juvenile Court Division for the State of Connecticut and the Department of Children and Youth Services as a Juvenile Court Officer.

After several years, he went to work at Alexander's Department Store, in Milford, CT as their Security Manager. Wanting to get back to the community, he was hired at Southern Connecticut State University where he worked himself up the ranks to Lieutenant, Assistant Chief and then Chief before his retirement in 2005. He served his community for 44 years. He married Lillian Jackson in 1958 and together, they had three children, James, Jr, Veronica and Laurie. They were remarried in 2002 and lived in New Haven before moving to North Charleston, SC in 2005. James was the founding member of the New Haven Silver Shields, a member of the Elks East Rock Lodge 141, I.B.P.O.E. of New Haven and very active on the SCSU campus. He was huge NFL fan, and his teams were the New York Giants and later in life, the Carolina Panthers along with being a big UConn fan. He enjoyed boating because of his son, James Jr, who was the Captain of the Liberty Bell. He loved to go to Block Island, the casino and he totally enjoyed a good cigar while having family and friends visit. He absolutely loved his children, grandchildren and would do everything in his power to give them what was needed.

James leaves to cherish his memory, daughters Veronica Sanders (Larry) of Moreno Valley, CA; Laurie Johnson (Timothy) of Mobile, AL; daughter-in-law Ina Dixon of Wilmington, NC; seven grandchildren: Kevin, Jessica, Timothy, Jesse, Alex, Aaron and Austin and three greatgrandchildren, London, Naomi and Jaylen.
