Gad Alexander
Troxler
Aug 24, 1929 — Apr 18, 2021
Branford
Gad Alexander Troxler was born to George and Mabel Troxler in Greensboro, North Carolina on August 24, 1929. He departed this life Sunday morning April 18, 2021 in Branford, Connecticut at the home of his devoted niece and caregiver, Augustine "Tina" Hunter. He was 91 years, seven months and 24 days old. Previously, Uncle Gad was in the care of his niece Angela Troxler and her dedicated and helpful daughter Brianna in Hamden, Connecticut. Loving Uncle Gad was truly a family affair!
Young Gad grew up with his parents, grandmother, Annie Haynes, and eleven siblings in a spiritually loving home. Always finding a special joy in the sweet, sweet songs of Zion, Gad joined the Church of God and Saints of Christ at an early age. He attended high school in Greensboro and joined the United States Army in 1951 at the height of the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge after two years in the Army.
Gad was successfully settled in Greensboro and after a visit from his mother, she convinced him to relocate to New Haven – the "Elm City", CT. There he worked for the G & O Manufacturing Company for several years. Later his brother, Sam Troxler, who worked at AT&T, convinced Gad to get a job there. Gad happily retired from AT&T after working there many years.
Like his father, Gad was exceptionally talented when it came to anything mechanical. He restored and refurbished his furnace, and a host of electronic items. Also, as a huge admirer of cars, he restored them too. Keeping in step with his father's talents, Gad became an excellent amateur photographer. One of his greatest loves was music. He deeply valued the days he sang second tenor for the Gate City Vocalaires . This great quartet opened concerts throughout the country for such gospel giants as The Harmonizing Four, the Dixie Hummingbirds and Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers . One of our former Leaders, Rabbi Howard Z. Plummer, would often ask the quartet to join him on many of his preaching trips around the nation to sing for the Lord. Rabbi Plummer would affectionately call them "my Greensboro boys". In addition to Brother Gad, the original members of the Gate City Vocalaires were: Sam Troxler, John Troxler and John Lofton. David Troxler joined the group later. In New Haven, Gad co-founded with Calvin McNeil another fine quartet group called the Melloaires. Its members were: Sam Troxler, Gad Troxler, David Troxler, Robert Stallings and Calvin McNeil.
A snappy dresser, Gad had a great eye for style and for beauty in all its forms. You might say that is one of the reasons too that Ms. Marion Stanley became the love of his life. Her outer beauty captured him, but it was her inner beauty and spirit that captivated him. He loved Marion's daughter, Valerie, as his own.
We will deeply miss this wonderful child of God. He is predeceased by parents George and Mabel Troxler; his grandmother, Annie Haynes; his four sisters, Martha Newkirk, Mary Ragland, Lucille Alston, and Esther Jenkins; his six brothers, Nehemiah Troxler, Samuel Troxler, Sr., John Troxler, Sr., Zebulon Troxler, James (Peter) Troxler, and David Troxler. He leaves to mourn his loss: a sister, Anna Troxler Hill of Greensboro, N.C. and a great host of nieces, nephews and friends.
