Obituary

Barbara (Fontaine) Petrulis, daughter of the late Thomas and Cecilia Mancini, born on May 29, 1934 in New Haven, CT, passed away peacefully in Hamden on August 20, 2022. She has been reunited with her beloved husband, John Petrulis and her step daughter Kathryn Petrulis. She is survived by her children,Deborah (Fontaine) Rizzo, Douglas Fontaine, and Dennis Fontaine, as well as her stepchildren, John Petrulis Jr., Peter Petrulis, and Paul Petrulis. She also leaves behind her two sisters, Sandra Daniele of Hamden, and June Daigle of Meriden. Barbara is missed by her grandchildren, Leonard, Nicholas, Joseph, Stephanie, Marissa, Dennis Jr., Jennifer, Julie, Tara, andJakob, along with her seven step-grandchildren, Felicia, Joanna, Alicia, Heather, Jessica, Daniel, Andrew, and Keith. She also leaves behind eighteen great-grandchildren.

Barbara enjoyed traveling and visiting vineyards with her husband, John. She sought to learn all that she could about wine and became a sommelier. After a visit together to a vineyard in France, Barbara took up scrapbooking to remember their trip.Family always knew they could come to her for advice on the best wines. In the evenings, Barbara could be found with a glass of the finest cognac, watching her game shows.

With her bright smile and welcoming personality, no matter the place, she was loved by all those around her. She spent much of her later years with her grandchildren, always active, whether it was watching fireworks, going for boat rides or enjoying a car ride. She had a great love for the sea and fine dining. A visit to a restaurant with Barbara, was never something to miss. Those that she left behind share many memories highlighted withlobster and oysters on the half shell.

Barbara took pride in her work ethic and she wore many hats. Most notable in her employment history were the positions she held at the Park Plaza Hotel, Comp USA, H&R Block, and Key Bank. She offered business and life advice to all who asked and volunteered to help Hamden seniors file their tax forms. When computers became all the rage, Barbara jumped right on board. She was keen on all the latest technology and even built her own computer which she named, "The Hawk."

Barbara loved to party and take photos. She was the photographer of the family, always looking for smiles and laughter. Two of her favorite occasions were the Fourth of July and New Years Eve. Neither will be the same without her and her legacy will continue to shine in hearts of those she left behind.
