Obituary

Barbara A Davis, born in Augusta, GA on 8/21/51 to Mattie Mae Davis & Frank Devine Sr. was called home on 5/2/2024 while peacefully resting at home surrounded loved ones.

Barbara, has resided in New Haven, CT for over 70 years. Her accomplishments during this time in Connecticut are many. One of her first, was one she is proudest of was while in her teens starting a girls organization called the SBG's or Sophisticated Black Woman. As president and founder she went on to foster the SBG Jrs. This organization became the start of who Barbara is, a leader, caretaker & protector. She graciously carried these attributes throughout her life. She worked at Pratt & Whitney for several years until she decided to go back to college. She attend college at Atlantic Union where she graduated with degrees in both counseling and religion. She fell in love with her passion to serve God and people. Barbara was a member of Mount Zion SDA church where she remained a member for over 50 years. She had a long battle with mental health however in her new walk she managed to take a holistic approach to her mental health which eventually led the doctors to change her diagnosis. After becoming an adventist, the doctors told her they have never seen a person with this type of mental health lead such a productive life like she did. If you ask her she would tell you that she owes it ALL to God, her faith, and belief in his word. Barbara stayed encouraged throughout life and continued to allow God to use her; she feels it was the best medicine and cure over her life. It was her personal walk and dedication to Christ that set her on a mission to spread his love and word to hundreds of people, her family and friends. Through her ministry hundreds have been baptized. Whether in church or home, her faith and love for God remains the same. That love and nurture continued as she assisted in raising 3 children, her daughter and caretaker Lamaara Davis, her adopted daughter Jamnice Martin and stepson Kenyen Smith Sr. 12 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers Robert G Davis Sr & Clinton Miller Davis. Her remaining siblings are Vernon Green of El Paso, Holly Hendricks of New Haven & Shiela Davis Nabors who reside in Florida. She has brought God to tons of nieces, nephews and countless extended family members. Within and through it all, Barbara A Davis is loved and will be missed by many. If asked what is the common factor of Barbara all would have to say her relationship with Christ.

The funeral arrangements have been met by a pre celebration of life which she was blessed and fortunate to attend and received her flowers in life with all of her family & friends. Condolences may be expressed at Hamdenmemorialfuneralhome.com.
